Glossa
A downloadable tool for Windows
Glossa
Glossa is a Text-to-Speech (TTS) and translation overlay application for Windows. It provides a quick text input interface that can be accessed at any time via a global hotkey.
Core Functionality
- Overlay Input: Press a designated hotkey to open the typing overlay over other windows.
- Text Processing: Text entered into the overlay can be optionally auto-translated to a target language.
- Voice Synthesis: The processed text is then spoken through the selected audio output device.
Usage Note: To route the synthesized voice into applications like Discord or VRChat as microphone input, a Virtual Audio Cable (such as VB-CABLE) must be selected as the output device within Glossa.
Features
- Custom Abbreviations: Users can define text shortcuts. For example, configuring "brb" to expand into "Be right back" before synthesis.
- Voice Engines: Includes options for standard Google TTS and Microsoft Edge TTS voices (10 lenguage available).
- Portability: Released as a standalone
.exe. Configuration and user settings are saved locally in aconfig.jsonfile. - Soundboard: Add and play multiple MP3/WAV files concurrently. Includes independent volume controls, looping, and a search bar accessible from both the main window and the overlay.
Install instructions
Basic Installation
- Download the
Glossa 1.0.zipfile. - Unzip (extract) the folder to any location on your PC (like your Desktop or Documents folder).
- Open the folder and double-click
Glossa.exeto run the application.
Note: Glossa is portable. There is no installer. It will automatically create a small config.json and sounds folder file in its folder to save your settings.
Optional (But Recommended): Voice Chat Setup
If you want to use Glossa to transmit your Text-to-Speech into games or Discord, you will need a Virtual Audio Cable.
- Download and install a free virtual cable like VB-CABLE (https://vb-audio.com/Cable/).
- Restart your PC if the VB-CABLE installer asks you to.
- Open Windows Sound Settings. Find "CABLE Output", go to Properties -> Listen tab -> check "Listen to this device" and select your headphones (so you can hear yourself).
- Open Glossa, click the Settings gear, and change your internal "Output Device" to
CABLE Input. - Finally, in Discord or your game, change your "Microphone / Input Device" to
CABLE Output.
Now, when you type and speak using Glossa, everyone in the voice chat will hear it.
